| X-Intercepts |
On all x-intercepts the y = 0. To find the x-intercept in any equation just plug in a 0 for y and solve for x. This is regardless of what form the equation is in.
Example
What is the x-intercept of y = 3x –1?
Plug in a 0 for y.
0 = 3x – 1
Solve for x by first adding 1 to both sides.
1 = 3x
Divide both sides by 3.
= x
Answer!
Note- The previous answer only states where on
the x-axis that the line crosses. For
the actual point on the graph where it crosses the x-axis remember that y =
0. Use that information to write the point (
, 0), as being the x-intercept.
Example
What is the x-intercept of 4x – 5y = 6?
Plug in a 0 for y.
4x – 5(0) = 6
Solve for x by first multiplying the 5 and 0.
4x = 6
Divide by 6.
x =
Simplify.
x =
